We are currently shuffling our departments around to make the most of the space available to us. In an industry such as ours we need to be in a position to continually meet our clients' requirements. As such, we have applied for planning permission to build an additional office. Our Operations division is being moved to make room for our concrete testing laboratory where our three compression testing machines (CTMs) will be brought together to be more efficient. We will take the opportunity to increase our concrete cube tank storage. This in turn will vacate space in the main materials lab for aggregate, asphalt, and cement testing. The new concrete testing area is already served with climate control, plumbing and drainage, and electric supply. We will be moving our CTMs while the accredited calibration service is in Malta to ensure there is no downtime due to logistics.
With a recovery time of between two to six weeks, we are wary of not being at or posing a risk to anybody. Each member of staff has been issued with the required PPE and means of disinfection. We have installed hand disinfection dispensers at strategic points within our laboratory and offices and encourage employees and the public alike to be mindful of risks associated with the pandemic and to safeguard personal safety. Of recent we have mandated compulsory wearing of face masks for employees and visitors alike. For more information please see the WHO webpage for use of masks during the COVID-19 pandemic here and one of their infographics below.
Requirements for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection.
We are looking to bolster our onsite inspection / quality assurance services with inspection body accreditation. Watch this space for updates.
We are proud to announce that to augment our current asset list, we have recently invested in a number of new electronic balances, concrete cube moulds, slump cones and related equipment, various new master calibration equipment, plate bearing fulcrum and ancillaries, automatic binder recovery apparatus, and remotely programmable laboratory oven amoung others.
Two representatives of Quality Department recently attended a “Masterclass ISO/IEC 17025:2017 from Theory to Practice" course in Leuven, Belgium. Lucky for us they didn’t bring COVID-19 back with them but, more importantly, the information disseminated during the course will beef up internal quality assurance.
